A Handy Man

A repair man came to fix our sliding door. I wish I would have taken a picture to show you. It was in bad shape. It was pulling away from the wall so badly that there were gaps that bugs could get through. I think the only reason we didn't have a bug problem is the cats would eat them when they came in.
Luckily, our house is under warranty. It took a while to get fixed because the window company and the installers kept coming out and saying it was the others problem. Thankfully it was figured out and fix.
Wes was a big helper with his hammer. I think I might be turning into a crazy cat lady, but this picture makes me laugh so much. How can I not share it?
Getting ready for bed after a hard day of work. So cozy and cuddly!

First Steps

Wesley took his first steps today! He was standing up holding to a chair and dancing. Then he got funny mischievous smile on his face and took a couple of steps toward me and fell into my arms. He took a few more steps, but then got so excited he would just crawl to me as fast as he could.

When Bret got home Wes took a few steps for him, but I wasn't able to get it on camera. But here is a dancing video.

My Big Helper

Naps

Wesley has had a hard time with sleeping. He's pretty good at sleeping through the night (thank goodness), but naps have been a challenge off and on. For half of a week last week we because a dream napper. I could put him down in bed at nap time, and he would go to sleep twice a day. Oh, those for days were like a dream....and then it ended.

Today he fell asleep during lunch. I was able to pick him up, but as soon as I put him down he started screaming. I tried leaving him for a few minutes, but it didn't work. He fell asleep in my arms a couple of times, but he would wake up every time I tried to put him down. Oh, and he was grumpy because he was so tired...Blah! At least he is super cute.
Any advice on napping?

Night out

Starting last week Bret now works three days a week that are at least 11 hours long. So the last two Tuesdays he is home. He isn't working at many hours which equals less pay, but I love having him home four days a week.
We this week we went to my favorite restaurant, Cafe Sabor. We had a 50% coupon and a survey to complete. It was a perfect September evening, and we enjoyed dinner out on the patio. Really it was an all around delightful evening.
Wes has a new fun game I like to call "Thank you." It involves us passing an item back and forth and saying, "Thank you" when receive it. I don't think you can hear on the video, but the way Wes says thank you in a half whisper is so cute.

Books and Music

Wesley does not sit still very much, but if he is sitting still it's probably because of a book. He loves books, especially this one with with wheels that turn.

Wes finally figured out to make music with his xylophone. I was surprised it took him this long to figure it out since he enjoys hitting objects with other objects.
Still so fun to watch him play and learn. What a fun time.

Really Standing

I was trying to get a picture of Wes because he had a Cheerio stuck on his head, and I got a couple of pictures of him standing too. He's starting to stand more and more and for longer and longer.

Snuggle-Saurus Wes

I ordered the costume on Tuesday afternoon, and it came Wednesday morning. I was shocked and excited it came so fast.
He look so cute in it, but he hates things on his head. Hopefully he will get over that in the next month.
Speaking of snuggle...

My Monkey Toes Then and Now

Wesley has same monkey jammies in newborn and 9 month sizes.
What a difference a few months can make.

Almost Home

This is what I see when I am almost home. I love all the farms.
(I took the picture without looking at the camera.)
View inside the car.
View from the top of Wesley's head. Look, he finally has enough hair to have wet hair.
When I was a kid my mom would throw warm laundry on me, and I loved it. So I thought I would enjoy some warm laundry, too.

Throw Up

Wesley woke up in the morning and from his first nap super happy and fun.
He was a little groggy during lunch and went down for his second early, and woke up not feeling well. I thought he had a fever and while I was getting the thermometer he throw up - a lot. And then some more. It was so sad to see his face and how miserable he was.
He temperature read really high. So I called the doctor. It was 3:45pm at that point and the doctors said they could get me in at 4:00pm. I was still in the process of cleaning up throw up so I had to move fast. When we got doctors on time (not sure how I did that), his temperature wasn't as scarily high. The pediatrician said she thought it was a stomach bug, and I think she was right.
It only lasted about 24 hours, and I was happy to see him feel better.

Taking a Stand

Wesley has started standing by himself, but it has been impossible to get a picture of it so far.
It starts by him pulling himself up on something. Then letting go.
Then falling after a couple of seconds.
It's fun to see his smile and how excited and proud of himself he is.
Wesley loves to get into my wallet and pull out the cards. I don't love it so much.
(Dear thieves, I have whited out all information that could be used to steal my identity.)

Wesley loves his ball and his brush. For the last little while he will hit his ball and chase it. Then hit it and chase it. It's quite fun to watch. He's changed it to hitting the ball with the brush and chasing it.

I tried making stuffed potatoes for the first time. They turned out okay.
After a big day it's nice to unwind with a bath and story time with Daddy.

Family Pictures

We took advantage of the day off and went to get family pictures. Unfortunately my photographer (aka dear friend, Melissa) hadn't been to the spot, and the last time I was there it was overcast. So the lighting was more than a challenge, but I think she did a great job.

I think that my hair has changed since I had Wes...any advice on how to deal with frizzy hair?

I wish the sun wasn't in our faces because I really like the background of stone and sunflowers. Still I really like this picture.

These next two are the same picture, but the second one is photoshopped.

I am just learning photoshop, and I am doing it by trial and error.
Which one of these do you like the best? I will number them to make it easier to identify.

It's obvious this one is altered, but we in shadow. I like this picture because it is the closest to a smile we got from Wes. He is so serious in new situations and studies everything, and that that not helpful when attempting family pictures.

The rest are the original photos. This one is just for funsies.

These next three are my favorites! I love my boys so much!

Us with Our Home

I realized that we hadn't taken a picture of ourself in front of our home since we made an offer on it, and there wasn't much there back then.
So we finally got a picture by our front door.
Notice the nice pink brush. It's one of Wesley's favorite toys, and sometimes shows up in inopportune times. For example, while taking family pictures.

Labor Day Weekend

We headed to SLC on Friday evening. Saturday morning I got my hair cut, and went to visit my Grandma Hood. We had some lunch, played outside, and then we were off to the pool. I forgot swim diapers for Wes so we couldn't get in the pool. Still we had fun hanging out by the side of the pool while Wesley's girl cousins swam.
My sister took Wes to my mom's house so Bret and I could do a quick little trip to Costco. It really is faster to go alone. Then Bret watch a football game with my brother and play video games with his friends. My mom watch Wes while my sister and I had a quick little trip to a clothes store I like that is going out of business. Wes slept the whole time in my mom's arms. What a little angle.

We left for home early Sunday morning and got back in time for church. We teach the 12-13 year old Sunday school class, and really enjoy it.

Lora Ione

My grandma was an amazing woman, and she lived a wonderful life. She was a woman who loved God and loved her family. I am so lucky to be her granddaughter. I would like to take some time to share some photographs and record a few of my memories.

Here is my grandma as a baby with her mother, father, and older brother. Her little sister hadn't been born when this picture was taken.
When my grandmother was born her brother ran up to her and proclaimed, "My dear little, Dearildee!" That was her nickname from that point on. She was quite upset when she entered school and her teachers did not call her Dearildee. Mother grandmother would tell us this story often, especially after he passed away a few years ago. She loved him so dearly, or should I say dearildee.

My grandmother was such a cute little girl. Isn't she picture perfect?
Here is my grandmother with her brother and little sister. She also had a brother, named Wesley who died from pneumonia when he was an infant.

Here is my grandmother as a college student. She is stunning.
This is my grandfather.
I love the story of how they met. I loved when Grandma would share it. Her expressions and laughter showed how much she loved my grandfather.
She was studying in the library and noticed the people around her laughing. When she looked up there was my grandfather drawing a picture of her.

Here is my Grandma B with her family. Look at how cute my dad was.
My grandmother was a school teacher for children with special needs for many years. In fact at one point she worked at the elementary school I attended. Ooo, I loved hearing about that as a kid.
She retired when we were very young, and my sister told everyone that my grandma stopped working because she was "real tired."
I loved going to Lagoon with my grandma, and I loved dressing up like pioneers to take pictures.
Can you tell which one is me? My husband couldn't. I am the blonde just to the right on my grandmother.

Here is one a few years later. (I am at the far left of this one.)
My grandmother took my sister and I to a fancy tea party at the Lion House. Notice my elegant gloves and purse? Oh, this was one of my favorite childhood memories. A special day with my Grandma B.
I remember spending hours in my grandmother's yard. She had a large tree in the west side of the yard that we would climb and make tree houses in. There was also two twisted branches on the same tree that a swing hung from. That tree was one of my dearest childhood friends.
There was several wonderful places to play in her yard. She had baby's breath that grew in her yard and she would let us pick some to put in our hair.
She would take us on walks to look and the sand pit.
She had cool things to make huts with including a changing screen, and she let us turn her living room into wonderful places.
For our birthdays should would give us one penny, nickel, dime, quarter, and dollar for every year we were. It was so exciting!
My grandma was always there to support us and made us feel so special and loved.

This is a picture of my Grandma Bishop at 80.
It was difficult for Grandma as she started to loose her sight and hearing. She was such a strong self reliant woman that it was a trial to loose her abilities. When asked has she was, she would laughingly respond, "old." Even as the years robbed her physically, she continued strong in her faith and love.

My grandmother would enjoy when I would play the piano for her. Surprised to hear I can play the piano. Well, I can't very well at all. I slowly stumble through hymns. But she enjoyed it so I stumbled my way through.

My grandmother was very happy when I married my husband in the temple. She would grasp his hands and state, "I like this man."

Whenever she would see Wesley she would ask, "Now is he a boy? He's so beautiful he could be a girl."

My grandmother and aunt who lived with her moved in with my father and step-mother summer of 2009. Although it was hard for her to leave the home she lived in for 50 years, it was a very good thing for her. She seemed to be reverse aging for much of that year. The love and care that my step-mother gave my grandma gave me a deeper love and appreciation for her.

The last little while she was starting to go down hill. She fell in the middle of August pretty hard and ended up in the hospital. (Both my grandmother's took hard falls within a couple of weeks of each other.) Things kept looking worse and worse. Wesley and I went down to visit her in the hospital August 17th. She was asleep for most of it, but when the nurses came and moved her she would cry/yell out in pain during and after. It was so hard to see her in so much pain. I am so grateful that Wesley was so good. He only whimpered once when the crying scared him, and I was able to calm him quickly. Because he was so good I was able to stroke my grandmothers forehead and try to comfort her.

My father and aunt decided to put my grandmother on Hospice so she could spend the little time she had left on this earth at home. While my father and step-mother stayed with her at the hospital to get ready to move her, I went and got tacos, pizza, and other treats. I made a snack table, and it reminded me of how my grandmother would always have snacks arranged on the table.

Once my grandmother was at home I could tell that she was much more at peace. Tuesday night my mother and siblings gathered at my fathers home to be with my grandmother.

My sister called me the next day to let me know my grandmother had passed away. We all gathered went to my father's home.

I am sad for myself to lose her, but I am happy for her. She is back with a loving Heavenly Father, and she has been reunited with my grandfather who passed away 37 years ago. She is able to see and hear, and feels no more pain. D&C 42:46, "And it shall come to pass that those that die in me shall not taste of death, for it shall be sweet unto them;"

I want to be spoken of at my funeral the way my grandmother was. She is remembered as a loving mother and grandmother, and honorable woman, and a true servant of the Lord.

Love you, Grandma!
