The Trouble with Tumbleweeds

We drove to Washington today for a residency interview for Bret.  While driving through Idaho we got a tumbleweed stuck in our hood.  It stayed for a long while only to be knocked out by this even bigger one.
Luckily after many many hours of driving we got there safe.  I am also now much better at dodging tumble weeds.  I also learned that it is a state law in Oregon that gas stations cannot be self serve. Weird and funny.
I really hope tomorrow's interview goes well for Bret.  Wish us luck!

Cross Country Skiing in Midway

I sometimes work doing mini camps for the Girl Scouts, and I love it.  We drove up to Midway on Friday evening, and we ate at a delicious restaurant called the Hub, and stayed at The Homestead.  The next morning we took all of the girls cross country skiing.  After lunch we let the girls pick between swimming at the hotel pool, more skiing, or snow showing.  I was lucky to be the counselor that got to continue with the skiing.
It was so hot.  I took of my coat and sweater and went around in short sleeves.  I was so glad I didn't put thermals on.
Here is a cool fake action shot.
Here I am pretending to be cool.
I wanted to take a picture of me and this cool frog statue.  My attire is different because I changed when we went in for lunch.

Counting My Blessings #27 - Shoes

Quarter Life Crisis

Yes, it is true the big 25 is here.  I don't think that I'm really having a crisis, but I like to say it anyway.  I actually think that is a perfect age, not too young not old.

My birthday I went to church.  And I much say I really enjoy church.  It is so nice to go and feel the spirit.  Then I had dinner with my in-laws.  My sister in-law made me a mini version of my wedding cake.  It was not only beautiful, it tasted so good.  Thanks, Donna.
It's banana cake with coconut frosting. Mmmm.
Monday was President's Day so Bret and I had the day off.  We went to Alta's ski after 3:00 for free deal.  This is the only picture I got, but it was beautiful.
Side note: Skiing scares me so bad.  But I love it and want to do it again.
Later that night it was my Mom's side to have me.  She got me really good pizza from The Pie.
Here are the different colored candles.  It is a little hard to tell in the picture, but they are sure are neat.
I celebrated my birthday with my Dad the Sunday before my birthday.  He made me lasagna, mmmmmm.

Valentine's Day 2009

Valentine's Day started out nice and relaxing. Bret gave me this beautiful bouquet of flowers and the Nalgene bottle they are in.Then we went to the Fossil store to pickup my birthday watch. We went to The Macaroni Grill at about 4:00pm and only had a 20min wait. There was a lady there that sang happy birthday to me Italian opera style. Plus, they gave me cake and this cool flower. My dinner tasted delicious as well. I highly recommend going to the Macaroni Grill for birthdays.

My sweet co-worker got roses for everyone for Valentine's Day. She is so nice.
My Mom gave Bret and me this nice gift for Valentine's.

The history of Valentine's Day is interesting I recommend checking out here and here.

Now That's a Flame of a Different Color

Today I wasn't feeling too birthdayish.  Work went on as usual and no one got me cake, and really the big day isn't until Sunday.  But when I got home a had a package full of presents.  In it was this:
I can't even express how excited I am.  When I was in 8th grade I did a lab where we lit different chemicals on fire and observed the different colors they burned.  When I was a sophomore in college I learned the cool science behind it and had a essay section about it on a test.  To learn more go here.  Plus I have always loved fireworks.  Well these candles fit right along with my colored fire passion.

Now feeling like I am very much in the birthday mood, and I have one of the coolest presents I have ever received.  Thanks, Mel!

Close in Counter with a Cheetah

So I shouldn't do a side by side because my version is not as good as the one of the Internet, but I never claimed to be Martha Stewart.

The lion is from familyfun.com. I was going to make it for my niece's birthday party, but she wanted a cheetah. So I just did dots instead of stripes.

Counting My Blessings #25 - My Husband

I included Bret in my blessing about my family, but I want to give him his own special post.

Words cannot express my love and gratitude for my husband. I love how smart and funny he is. I love when he gets his mischievous smile. He is so handsome and smart. He works very hard in school so that he will be able to provide for his family. I love that I can spend hours and hours with him and still want more. I am grateful for eternal marriages and the opportunity to have him always. I love the sound of his voice and subtle freckles. He treats me so well and brings me so much joy. He supports me in my goals and inspires me to be a better person. He loves to try new things and go on mini adventures. I love his green eyes and dark hair. I love that I can trust him with anything and everything. I love that he is a worthy priesthood holder, and that he loves God. I love that he is a sports fan. I love is silly sense of humor. He is so sweet and patient and will go along with me on my crazy ideas. I love the way he acts when he is really excited about something.

I could go on and on, but to sum it up...I am one lucky lady to have such a hunky hubby.

Groundhog Day Rebellion

Firstly, I would like to wish you all a marvelous Groundhog Day!
Next I would like to state that the whole world has it backwards. If the groundhog sees his shadow that means the sun is out. Sun=Warm Warm=Spring. But if it is cloudy outside then there is no shadow for the woodchuck to see (Yes, woodchuck is another name for groundhog. How much wood could a groundhog chuck, if a groundhog could chuck wood?). Cloudy=Cold Cold=Winter
The logic is off.

According to this article little Chuck was trying to tell the world of its error in behavior interpretation:
"At another Groundhog Day ceremony in New York, a rodent called Staten Island Chuck didn't see his shadow but did bite Michael Bloomberg, the city's mayor - an action that groundhog experts were at a loss to explain in meteorological terms."

So let's all hope for snow in the mountains and rain in the valleys! (We do need some type of storm to clear out the air!) And don't worry what supposed experts say about the shadow. How do you become a groundhog expert anyway?

P.S. I really like making paper groundhogs that popped up from the ground as a kid.
